If you are in the market for replacement windows, then part of getting an accurate quote involves accurately measuring your existing windows. Although this may seem like a daunting task since you must be very precise, it is actually easier than you might think. Here, you can learn how to measure for new windows.
Step 1: Measure the Width
To discover the width of your windows, you should measure between the jambs at three separate points: the top, the middle, and the bottom of the window opening. What's more, you should be sure to measure from the jamb surface, excluding any parting beads or trim. Chances are good that these three numbers will be slightly different, so make sure to stick to the smallest of the three numbers when it comes to providing measurements.
Step 2: Measure the Height
This part of measuring windows is much the same. Measure from the highest point of the sill, which is the part of the sill closest to the inside of the window itself, to the top of the window opening. Again, you will need to take three measurements: one at the left, one in the center, and one at the right. The smallest number indicates the right size window for the opening.
Step 3: Measure the Length
If you have any parting strips or pulleys inside of the window opening, be sure to ignore these. When you replace the vinyl windows in Burlington, the company will remove these. You will need at least 3 ¼ inches of depth between the outside blind stop strip (which holds the window into place) and the inside window trim in order to accommodate most replacement windows.
Step 4: Measure for Squareness
The last part of your measurement endeavor involves making sure that the window opening is perfectly square. You can do this by measuring both of the diagonals from corner to corner. If the opening is off square by ¼ inch or less, the company can shim the window to fit. However, if it is off square by more than this, then you may need to adjust or even replace the frame. Otherwise, your window may sit in the wall at an odd angle.
Step 5: Measure the Sill Slope
Finally, in some cases, you may need to find the slope of your windowsill. If this is the case, all you need to do is place a simple carpenter's square up against the blind stop with the base resting against the edge of the sill. Then, measure the distance between the sill and the base of the carpenter's square at the two-inch mark. This simple chart will help you determine the angle:
Distance - Angle
1/8" - 4⁰
1/4" - 7⁰
3/8" - 11⁰
1/2" - 14⁰
Now that you have all of this information available, obtaining a quote for replacement windows in Burlington is easier than ever. All you have to do is provide each of your accurate measurements to the company of your choice, and they can provide you with a variety of options and prices to suit your needs.

It’s not everyday that I take the time to email a contractor… but my wife insisted! You guys did a great job and you kept it quick and quiet. We’ve got a newborn who sleeps often and your man did a good job not waking her up. Cheers.
We had done our share of research before finally deciding to go with your company and we must say that EuroSeal really had the greatest value. Guess we can chalk it up to working with a manufacturer.
