A sun room is a great place that can improve your physical and mental health when you put it into a home. However, you need to make sure that you prepare the room properly so it doesn't become a money sink. This means installing windows and doors that can help keep warm air in during the winter and out during the summer. Here are three steps you should take to make sure you get the most out of your sun room.
1: Install New Doors
The most common source of heat loss for a sun room is through the patio doors. Even if you have relatively new doors, the seal can become damaged and useless as the years go by, requiring prompt door replacement if you want to keep the same level of energy efficiency. Sliding patio doors are good options for a replacement because they minimize the potential gaps between the wall and door. Make sure that any door you install has double-paned glass and is properly insulated to protect against winter weather. As the doors get older, you may want to add some plastic to them in the wintertime, as this creates a barrier of neutral air that helps to keep cold from creeping in through the glass.
2: Find and Seal Leaks
Air leaks commonly show up in the corners of a sun room and around windows and doors. You can find these air leaks by turning off all internal fans and turning on any external fans that blow air outside through a vent. Then light a candle or incense stick and wave it near the corner of the room and around any cracks of holes that you notice. If the smoke starts to trail out through one of the cracks, you have found an air leak. Small air leaks can be filled with some caulk or silicone. Large air leaks, such as those found around the edge of a door, might call for something more extreme, up to and possibly including hiring somebody to install an entry door. But once it's done, the problem should be gone.
3: Consider Window Tints
Window tints come in many different varieties, but all of them can help make sure that the warm, comfortable effects of sunlight get into your sun room while the harmful effects stay out. Combined with a vent or ceiling fan, this can help you regulate the temperature more effectively. In a sun room, you should look into clear polarized window tints, which won't change the overall look of the sun's rays but which will help improve the overall energy efficiency of the room by allowing in more light and heat with fewer UV rays.
A good sun room can be a relaxing haven during any season of the year. As long as you make sure to maintain the room regularly, you can make it one of the most energy efficient rooms in your home. This helps maximize its effects and will make you a happier, healthier person.
We just wanted to write to say thanks because the window quality is great and your helpful craftsman and professional installers made the entire experience wonderful. We only wish we could have this experience with all of our renovation projects.
We recently moved to our new house and needed to do some repairs and renovations. Your company was recommended by our very pleased friends. The windows look amazing and the installation job Richard did was first class.
It’s not everyday that I take the time to email a contractor… but my wife insisted! You guys did a great job and you kept it quick and quiet. We’ve got a newborn who sleeps often and your man did a good job not waking her up. Cheers.
We had done our share of research before finally deciding to go with your company and we must say that EuroSeal really had the greatest value. Guess we can chalk it up to working with a manufacturer.
It is our pleasure to say thanks for a great job done by your company. Luke and his colleague did a lovely job and they were very well mannered. It was a pleasure having them around.
We especially appreciated the help of your craftsman in choosing the appropriate style and colour for our first home. In the end, the windows look beautiful and I’m extremely happy with how easy they are to clean.
We damaged one of the external hinges a month ago, and your company’s prompt and efficient handling of the service call was impressive! We appreciate how quickly your company sent over a representative to fix the problem.
