As energy costs continue to rise, more and more home owners find themselves looking for as many ways as possible to save on energy costs. While replacement windows can be a great move towards saving energy, it is important to consider whether it will be a cost-efficient measure or not.
#1 – Consider the Possibility of Rebates
In some cases, home owners who decide to install energy efficient vinyl windows in Toronto may be entitled to receive rebates. However, there will normally be terms and conditions associated with this, such as having the work done by an accredited installer and/or using specific types of windows that are Energy Star rated. Although some rebate options may be worth a few thousand dollars, it is important to weigh up the cost of the rebate versus the full cost of the new windows installation before going ahead with the work.
#2 – Have a Home Inspection Performed Beforehand
Before agreeing to an all new windows installation, it is recommended that home owners have an energy audit performed. This will help determine whether they will in fact benefit from replacing all of their existing windows or if it will be more feasible to have them repaired instead. After having an inspection performed, the auditor will normally be able to tell a home owner how much money he will save on his monthly energy bills by fitting new windows. In cases where the savings will be $100 or less per year, it may be better to repair existing windows.
#3 – Is Relocation a Possibility?
In cases where home owners intend moving within the next year or two, it will most likely not pay them to purchase new vinyl windows to save a few dollars on a monthly energy bill. However, if they intend living in the house for the unforeseeable future, it can pay them to purchase replacement windows in Toronto that will not only be more energy-efficient; they can add aesthetic appeal to the house as well.
#4 – Consider Repair Costs
There are instances where leaking windows can be repaired or rendered more energy-efficient if a low-emissivity film is installed on them. However, to determine which route will be more financially viable, it will be necessary to obtain estimates for repairs and new window replacements. If the repair costs are going to total less than 50% of the cost of replacement windows, that may be the better choice. When the repair costs are close to that of replacement, it may be better to have new windows installed.
#5 – Always Use Accredited Installers
When obtaining estimates for window repairs or complete replacements, home owners should ensure that these are only provided by accredited and reputable installers. This will ensure that any applicable rebates are paid out (in the case of replacements) and that there is some form of recourse or guarantee in the event of anything going wrong with the installation at a later stage. If an installer is not willing to provide a guarantee, it is best to use an alternative company.
We just wanted to write to say thanks because the window quality is great and your helpful craftsman and professional installers made the entire experience wonderful. We only wish we could have this experience with all of our renovation projects.
We recently moved to our new house and needed to do some repairs and renovations. Your company was recommended by our very pleased friends. The windows look amazing and the installation job Richard did was first class.
It’s not everyday that I take the time to email a contractor… but my wife insisted! You guys did a great job and you kept it quick and quiet. We’ve got a newborn who sleeps often and your man did a good job not waking her up. Cheers.
We had done our share of research before finally deciding to go with your company and we must say that EuroSeal really had the greatest value. Guess we can chalk it up to working with a manufacturer.
It is our pleasure to say thanks for a great job done by your company. Luke and his colleague did a lovely job and they were very well mannered. It was a pleasure having them around.
We especially appreciated the help of your craftsman in choosing the appropriate style and colour for our first home. In the end, the windows look beautiful and I’m extremely happy with how easy they are to clean.
We damaged one of the external hinges a month ago, and your company’s prompt and efficient handling of the service call was impressive! We appreciate how quickly your company sent over a representative to fix the problem.
